DVM
A native of upstate South Carolina, Dr. Rhonda Pressley Veit has lived in the Athens area since 1998. She holds a BA in English from Clemson University, an MFA from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and a DVM from the University of Georgia. Dr. Veit’s first job was delivering auto parts for her father’s auto parts store in Clemson, South Carolina; she has since worked as an instructor of English, a legal secretary, a barn hand on a horse farm, a dog-sitter, a bartender, a veterinary anatomy lab tech, a clerk in a maternity store in a Birmingham mall, and several incarnations of veterinarian. She spent most of the first twenty years of her veterinary career as a large animal/equine veterinarian and was the Assistant State Veterinarian for the State of Georgia from 2008-2010. Dr. Veit still writes short fiction and has published in The South Carolina Review, Vastarien: A Literary Journal, Black Static, and Remains. In her spare time she also enjoys time with her husband and two children, lifting weights, reading, and running. Cooking and gardening are interests, but there are only so many hours in a day. Dr. Veit lives in Watkinsville and is shown here with Maggie, aka Evil Genius, one of her two dogs. Dr. Veit joined Mars Hill Animal Hospital in 2021.
